ConsultTed is a software solution designed for the management of self-treatable ailments in the community, without the need to see a GP. ConsultTed places community pharmacies as the focal point of this ‘Everyday Health’ movement. ConsultTed has been created with both patients and pharmacy teams in mind. ConsultTed helps patients by allowing access to ailment-specific advice, treatment options and appropriate referral pathways, should they be needed. It also helps pharmacy staff systematically and reliably manage these consultations, providing patients with the most up-to-date and clinically proven treatment options. To find out more visit the ‘Who we are’ and ‘What we do’ sections of the website.

No, it is a rolling monthly contract but you need to give 3 months’ notice, prior to cancellation date.

Through our website and social media channels, ConsultTed will be promoting the role of community pharmacies in general, but in particular to highlight what ConsultTed can do for patients, pharmacies and other stakeholders. A major part of this will be directing patients to pharmacies who have already subscribed to ConsultTed. There is also a section on our patient website enabling a search of all ConsultTed subscribed pharmacies.

ConsultTed is designed to be as simple as possible to use. That said, with the decisions required in operating ConsultTed, there is a certain level of understanding and training required. The following members of staff are therefore able to operate ConsultTed only after completing our operational course, and have been deemed competent to do so by their pharmacist or line manager:

  • Pharmacists
  • Pre-reg (foundation year) pharmacists
  • Pharmacy students
  • Pharmacy technicians
  • Dispensary assistants or similar qualification equating to an NVQ Level 2 pharmacy course
  • A staff member who is currently working towards completion of any of the above

Yes, in fact ConsultTed has been designed such that the opportunities for service referrals are highlighted to the operator in multiple ways, ensuring better identification and suitability for these services.

ConsultTed recognises that modern society are choosing more and more to use a hybrid of private based services along with public NHS services. Currently there is a lack of a standardised referral pathway from community pharmacies to both types of setting, so through ConsultTed, pharmacies will be able to avail of our referral forms enabling continuity of care at multiple settings. This will also potentially allow for partnerships between community pharmacies and other local health and social care providers to develop.

No, this is not a government funded service. This is a private service where there are fewer eligibility criteria to access treatment. The main criteria is the licenced indication of the medicine and suitability of the product for you and your ailment.

We take data security extremely seriously and have implemented a comprehensive set of technical controls in line with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) standards.

Our key security measures include Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus Certification.

These measures are part of our commitment to safeguarding both patient and pharmacy data, ensuring trust, transparency and compliance at every stage of our service delivery.

Currently, this is not possible. We are a relatively new company but we have big plans that include integration with other medical records with the hope of contributing to that one universal health record, accessible at multiple healthcare settings. Our aim is to complement existing solutions and practices, not make things harder for patients and health professionals.

Yes, both the subscribed pharmacy and ConsultTed are independent data controllers, meaning we are both responsible at various times for how and why personal information is collected, used, stored and destroyed. Follow the link to our privacy policy to find out more about this, but each pharmacy will own their own data.
